Endowed by Robert and Diane Abrams

September 19, 2025 @ 6:00 pm September 20, 2025 @ 7:30 pm

The innaugeral Scholars-in-Residence will be Sherri and Rabbi Seth Mandel. They are the parents of Koby Mandell, z”l, who was murdered at age 13 near his home in Tekoa in May 2001. Sherri and Rabbi Seth founded the Koby Mandell Foundation to perpetuate his memory. The foundation provides emotional support and healing for victims of terror, loss, and trauma. Its efforts are designed to foster resilience, provide a sense of belonging, and help families heal after experiencing profound pain and loss. Sherri is also the author of a number of books, including the award winning The Blessing of a Broken Heart.

Marty Pear was the father of our Rabbi, as well as a beloved life-long Jewish Communal worker. In his last professional position, he served as the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Phoenix. Since his passing, a JCC Israel Education Program was established in his memory, the Marty Pear Israel Fellows. To learn more, either about Marty or the Fellowship Program, click on their respective links. The JCC building in Phoenix is dedicated to his memory.

This annual Shabbaton or lecture was endowed by Robert and Diane Abrams to further perpetuate the memory of Marty.
