Over the years, Shir Hadash has initiated, supported and/or guided the operation of a number of projects dedicated to improving the richness and diversity of Jewish life. Since Shir Hadash’s start-up assistance, many of these projects have gone on to great heights all on their own. Here are a few examples of programs we have offered assistance.
2000: Shir Hadash begins, and it’s first project is a community synagogue in the Nachla’ot neighborhood of Jerusalem. This Synagogue is wildly successful and immediately attracts hundreds of people each week to its spirited prayers and multiple educational activities. In 2003, Shir Hadash moves on to the German Colony section of Jerusalem, but not before setting the groundwork for the continuation of its minyan in Nachla’ot – now to be called Kol Rina – by securing a permanent space, establishing a board of directors, guiding the transition, and providing all the necessary accouterments for the successful operation of a Synagogue.
2015 – 2017: Shir Hadash hosts in its facility, as well as provides educational, financial and administrative resources for the launch and operation of the Kemach Institute, an innovative experiential post-high school learning program for overseas’ students in Israel founded by Rabbi Shimshon Jacob.
2016: Thanks to the kindness of the Achim Hasid Building company which loaned one of its building for our use, Shir Hadash launches Shir Hadash on Emek, an affiliated Shabbat community with 150 members. Shir Hadash continues to provide material, Rabbinic and educational guidance and support to this thriving community.
2018: Provided administrative assistance to The People’s Talmud, an initiative of our member, Rabbi Gedaliah Gurfein, and one of the most innovative online educational projects of our time. To learn more, visit here.
2020: Housed and provided educational, financial and administrative resources for the move of Midreshet Amudim to Jerusalem, a new post-high school seminary originally based in Modiin. In 2022, Shir Hadash encouraged Amudim to become its own independent non-profit organization, and in 2023 supported its move from our main facilities.
